Mentoring offers a supportive and challenging space to clarify and achieve professional development goals, working with an experienced professional who shares their own experience, knowledge and skills where relevant.

I work with mentees from across the cultural and non-profit sectors through either a one-off session, or a series of conversations and exchanges over a period of time. Sessions are tailored to the mentee and can include coaching-style support; training on particular topics e.g. motivation and delegation, team dynamics etc; development of draft strategy documents or plans.

Coaching enables individuals to improve their performance by developing greater understanding of themselves and the impact they have on others. A coach supports and challenges the coachee in equal measure, enabling them to identify and clarify their own goals and develop their own plans to achieve them. The coach neither advises nor guides, focusing instead on creating a productive, focused space for the coachee to explore and pursue their own thinking.

Practically, coaching takes the form of a structured conversations or coaching ‘session’ in which the coachee is encouraged to think for themselves through attentive listening, skilled questioning and sometimes exercises.  As with mentoring, coaching include virtual sessions (via phone or video conference) as well as face-to-face sessions, depending on the preference of the coachee.

Thanks to the Clore Leadership Fellowship I’ve benefitted enormously from formal mentoring support and working with a coach. I continue to work with other coaches on my own professional development, mainly through Group Coaching (aka Action Learning).

I regularly provide mentoring and coaching to participants on the engage Extend mentoring programme and Clore leadership programme, as well as individual professionals from the cultural and non-profit sector. I am an accredited Relational Dynamics 1st coach and full member of the Association for Coaching.
